September 1, 2026 - Friendship Box Exchange (with Grace Hawley)

August 24, 2026 is the deadline to sign up for the Friendship Box Exchange.

Boxes will be prepared to hand out at the SEPTEMBER evening meeting.

How this Works:

  • Boxes will be handed out Tuesday September 1st at the Guild evening meeting.  An example of a Friendship Box quilt will be there as well as further instructions that include a list of participants with phone and address information.  The box and it's accruing contents travels to the next person on the list.

  • Please note that when you sign up for the Friendship Box you will be asked if you already have a plastic box from prior events or if you need one.

  • You choose the pattern you want your friends to make.  Please include the complete instructions for the pattern.  Please, NO all-applique blocks and, NO all paper pieced blocks - such as a mariners point.  If you have questions about the block you would like to include, please contact Grace Hawley.  You will make the first block as an example.  You may include fabric if you wish (such as: Fat quarters, large pieces of inspirational fabric, background fabric or focus fabric), but it is not a requirement.

  • The block you choose should be about a 2-3 hour project at most.

  • Your box will travel around to 11 other people (you are the first block) until 12 blocks are completed. You pass to the same person every week. It doesn't matter how many people join this group; your box will only go to 12 people (including yourself).  NOTE:  Owners do not get to see the completed blocks until the May Tea and Tasty Revealing party!!

  • Not making a block and passing to the next person is allowed if you feel you can't get the block done in the time period.  Before you pass on a block, check with the mentors to see if someone is available to help you.

  • Each participant starts with a plastic craft box.  Instructions will be placed in the box.  You do the first block as an example and insert it in the box.  Each person pins their name label to the block they made. Then the completed 12 blocks will be shown at the reveal party.  You can then assemble the blocks however you wish. Quilts will be displayed at the Tuesday Guild Meeting in May.

  • Boxes are switched every two weeks (every three weeks in November and December).  Calendar, the delivery order, addresses, and phone numbers will be provided in each box.  This way you can call the owner and ask for guidance on completing their block. Sometimes we need a little help when a block is a new challenge.

  • If you need a box, please add that to the comment section when you sign up.  Those who already have a box will be given a packet of papers to insert.

  • If you get stuck on a block or need help with the block pattern or instructions please contact the following mentors:   Denise Shaw, Becky Ray, or Grace Hawley.

NOTE:  Deadline to sign up for Friendship Box is AUGUST 24th
